A red,red rose

(by Robert Burns)

O, my love is like a red, red rose,

That’s newly sprung in June.

O, my love is like the melody,

That’s sweetly played in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonny lass,

So deep in love am I,

And I will love thee still, my dear,

Till all the seas go dry.

Till all the seas go dry, my dear,

And the rocks melt with the sun!

And I will love thee still, my dear,

While the sands of life shall run.

And fare thee well, my only love,

And fare thee well a while!

And I will come again, my love,

Though it were ten thousand mile!

4.      Reading for information.

Read the text about St. Valentine’s Day once and say how this day is celebrated.

February 14th is a pleasant day to remember. It is St. Valentine’s Day. It has lost its religious meaning and it is now celebrated by sending of special Valentine cards. Young people buy or make them and send them to those who they love.

They do not write their names on the cards. Those who get a Valentine card must guess who has sent it.

5.      Read the text again and say which of these statements are “true” and which are “false”.

1)      February 14th is a Fool Day. 2) It is not a religious holiday. 3) Only old people celebrate this holiday. 4) It is celebrated only in England. 5) Young people have to write their names on the cards.

6.      Answer the questions. How well do you know Valentine symbols, history and traditions.

1)      What does a fan mean? ( to open your heart to your lover)

2)      What is to get a red mitten? ( your lover doesn’t love you any more)

3)      What is the best gift? ( red roses)

4)      What is the symbol of this day? ( a heart)

5)      What does a ribbon mean? ( you want to be together with your lover)

7.      Listen to the song and sing it along. ( use the text on the first page)

 I Just Called

No New Year's Day to celebrate,

No chocolate girls or candy hearts to give away,

No birds of spring, no song to sing,

In fact it's just another ordinary day.

No April rain, no flowers bloom,

No wedding Saturday within the month of June,

But what it is, is something true

Made up of these three words that I must say to you

I just called to say I love you

I just called to say how much I care,

I just called to say I love you

And I mean it from the bottom of my heart

No Summer's time, no warm July,

No harvest moon to light one tender August night,

No autumn breeze, no falling leaves,

Not even time for birds to fly to southern skies,

No Libra sun, no Halloween,

No giving things toward the Christmas joy you bring.

But what it is, though, oh, so new,

To fill your heart like no three words that I ever knew.

Love is life and if you miss love, you miss life.

Life is the flower which love is the honey.
